MW pulled one out of the fire in qual so no one can fail to recognise a decent recovery in Q3 based on the weekend so far.
MWs body language in the presser wasn't happiness or relief but I'm sure in the privacy of his change room in the Energy Station he'll reflect and recognise the effort for what it was.
I still think he's got no chance of defending P2 into the T2 chicane, and you can expect to see a very unusual car position from him on the grid as he angles the car for the T1 apex right across Lamos path.
I'll continue the doom and gloom and you guys can pep me up with fantastical imaginings to convince me otherwise for the race start tomorrow. ;D

So reading Mark's comments towards the end of the presser it was a brake set-up issue that caused the Q1 palpatations:
"Q: (Michael Schmidt - Auto, Motor und Sport) Mark, you picked up the speed on your very last run. Was it just a brake balance problem before which hampered you? MW: I probably said that we changed the car quite a bit with what we can change, within qualifying: obviously front wing, brake balance and a few things like that. I wasn’t happy with the car at all in Q1. We were in big trouble but we got on top of this, so thank God we managed to recover very, very well and put the car right towards the front, because after Q1 I was thinking that it might be a different day tomorrow. It was most of the reason why."
Sounds like it was a pretty desperate time for the boys running into that final run!

Reading the post qual presser stilll makes me think MWs biggest issue will not be defending DRS but tyre management -either switching them on or making them last. Lamo may end up having the same problems too but assuming MW can stay in the top 4 after the start my worry is he'll be compromised and prevented from moving forward during the race.

I'm finding it hard to get motivated for this race, hoping it's just the track. I haven't watched a practice session since Monaco!!

Well I am again seeing a backwards first lap for mark However I think that he will have a better shot at recovery than an early pitstop to go back behind the lotie also maybe he wont get punted from behind by a williams this year

Well I am again seeing a backwards first lap for mark However I think that he will have a better shot at recovery than an early pitstop to go back behind the lotie also maybe he wont get punted from behind by a williams this year It's early for me (still struggling through first coffee), so maybe things will come clear in time, but where Chris is seeing a backwards first lap, I am struggling to make sense of the rest of the post.... P5/6 by the end of lap 1 should be about everyones expectations considering all the factors (dirty side, über reliable (Wayne) KERS, MW's 'special starts', the known rocketlaunch of the Fezza's and Macca's....) followed up by another stellar drive back through to finally finish on the podium. Strategy will be compromised simply because Golden Bollocks is on Pole and should walk away with a handy lead from the get out. Couple that with the absolute genius that is RBR strategy and we should see Mark going a lap longer than Seb, going onto the Prime for the second stint for about 10 laps while they decide it just doesn't work for him, then they will pit him just as he purples everything because he's suffered the pain and the tyres have started to come to him, they will put him back onto Options that he will then have to nurse to the end. The only hope we have of something different is if Seb bombs the start, or puts it in the wall, or he finally has a mechanical issue because the mechanics accidentally put some of Marks parts on Seb's car.... Optimism is in short supply this morning....

Best thing to do is have low expectations, so when Mark has a bad start and storms though the field for a podium you still enjoy the race

Ultimately, as Jim has said, I don't think anyone can be upset with P2. It would have been nice to be P3 and not have to do as much thinking about the start but it is what it is.
I am actually quietly confident. I don't think Mark will do what he did last year. He will learn from that mistake. As Jim said, he will likely angle the car into Hamiltons line to try and block him off. This may actually force Hamilton even further inward and push him into trying a spot on Seb into the first corner.
I think there will be fireworks into the first corner and maybe even a red. Just hope Webber can stay out of it.
Ultimately, 2nd place needs to translate into a podium. Dirty side and all but he needs to go all out for this. The year is running away fast.
I'm actually looking forward to this GP!

Just want to see a straight fight between seb and mark. We have been deprived this year. No more 'recovery' drives, please. I'm over him being on the backfoot throughout a grand prix.

re; The above Autosport Article Honestly I thought Jonathon Noble was more switched on than this. Forcing drivers to use a used set of tyres at the start of the race will not cause teams that might otherwise sit out Q3 to run anyway. The teams that do this will usually do it to save a brand new set of options for use in the race, forcing teams to run on used rubber won't change this. Forcing teams to run or face a 10 grid spot penalty would work much better, but even then the advantage of an extra set of brand spanking tyres could far outweigh the penalty. The only way I can see to negate the advantage a brand new set of tyres gives a driver would be to make them much more durable so that outlap/hotlap/inlap doesn't take the life out of them, and if they go down this road we will see every GP with a single pitstop to change compounds form the Granite (Option) tyres they qualified on to the Diamond (Prime) tyres.... Ludicrous! So unless I have missed something glaringly obvious, if a team chooses not to run, there's stuff all you can do about it. I can't see the teams agreeing to it anyway, but if it went ahead wouldn't the teams that wanted to sit it out just cruise around in Q3 in order to 'use' a set of tyres, but not take any life out of them???

Just as aside, Mark trying too hard to hold onto P2 is what cost him last year. Unless he makes a good/great start he should be looking to slot in behind Hamilton and defend P3. Trying to hang alongside Lewis through the first curve last year let the Ferraris through.

Oh Loud, how do you manage to be so depressive, I mean a little bit of negative feeling helps make it all ok but seeing it in every situation, you must have a good psychologist.
